In most cases, no. Most X-ray exams require little to no preparation. When you arrive, you may be asked to change into a gown, depending on the area being examined.
A medical radiation technologist (MRT) will position you for the exam. You will need to remain still, and may be asked to hold your breath briefly while each image is taken.
The steroid medication is provided at no cost to patients. Most procedure visits are billed to Alberta Health.
